Why did you choose to do Caps?
For a while now I've felt a little bored and unstimulated in my classes. I have found that the times I feel I am learning the most are when I am not in the classroom, or when we do engaged activities. For example, over the summer I worked as a counselor, and after those 6 weeks I felt much more enlightened than I have in the last 3 month of school. I learned about myself as well as others. Also, I know school wont last forever, so I would like to prepare myself for what the "real world" is like. Additionally, my sister participated in Caps 6 or so years ago when she was a senior and I’ve been itching for my turn since.
Where will you be interning and why?
I will be interning at the Integrated Centre for Child Development. This is a facility that provides physical and occupational therapy for people under the age of 18. I will do administrative work and shadow therapists. I learned about occupational therapy this summer and was very interested, so once I decided to do CAPS I began researching occupational therapy offices. I found the ICCD and contacted them and they responded quickly and enthusiastically! I knew it would be an excellent place to intern at.
I didn't know occupational therapy was a thing until a few months ago. Its like physical therapy- but for motor functions and activities in daily life. I thought it was cool how you could help someone with so many necessary functions. I wanted to work with kids because I love kids, and I work with a camp counselor and swim instructor so working with kids is easy and fun for me. I also think also it would be cool to teach kids skills that they will have and use for the rest of their lives. I want to make a lasting impact on them.

What are you excited for about your internship? What are you nervous for?
I LOVE KIDS!!!!! I cannot wait to spend my day with little kids. I think they are smart and fun and way better than adults. Additionally, I am excited to explore a field I may be interested in as a career. Also, I think it is really cool that I will work for a place that directly affects so many peoples lives. Physical and occupational therapy is so relevant to daily life and it is amazing that I will be able to be a part of this.
I am worried about transportation. I have a twin brother with whom I share a car. We swap off weeks, so when it's his week I will probably have to go by train or get a ride from my mom. I am slightly worried about scheduling because I have to stay through D block, but D block is over at 12:30 at the latest, so that still leaves plenty of time to work!

What skills do you have that will help you succeed?
I am very organized. I will continue to use a daily planner and make daily to do lists. Once I have finished my English homework I will devote time to my website, and- as the presentation nears- my presentation. Because I drop my other classes I am not worried about doing this work because it replaces what I have been doing. I have never made a web portfolio before, but I like technology and I love designing things so I am very excited to make a website!
